Wurzburg Infantry 1806 - 1814 | | The Grand Duchy of Wurzburg was created in December 1805. Grand duke Ferdinand raised an infantry regiment of two battalions which became the 1st Regiment of the Rhine Confederation in 1806. The regiment was presented with four standards on 8th August that year. By 1812 the regiment was four battalions strong and had a fifth, depot battalion which is stated to have possessed two flags as illustrated. In 1814 the regiment was taken into Bavarian service and was issued with Bavarian standards. The Wurzburg standards measured 160cm x 120cm and were carried on a stave painted in red and white spirals and topped with a gilt spear-shaped finial. | | Top: Field Battalion Pattern Bottom: Depot Battalion Pattern | |
